Qi Gong

For the Older Person

Qi Gong is often called by different names including, chi, chi kung, chi gung, however we will use the term Qi Gong which is the term I was taught in Beijing. Qi Gong benefits older people, whatever their age where they want to be healthy and enjoy old age free of illness and infirmity. In China at least 60 million people over the age of 60 practice Tai Qi and Qi Gong specifically to help keep themselves young in body and mind, and these techniques have worked for thousands of years.

In the parks all over China you will see people 60+ doing their morning exercises and displaying a flexibility thats enviable by many. Qi Gong does require a certain amount of effort and perseverance, however it offers older people a realistic way of helping in maintaining or regaining their vigour and clarity of mind. Qi Gong , is based on the concept of "Qi ", internal energy, breath of life, the life force. The Chinese believe this energy can be used to heal injuries and illnesses and improve general health.

Qi Gong exercises are are simple to learn and some of the exercises can also be learnt whilst seated. We teach 2 different types of Qi Gong, those with a Martial arts background coming from the Internal side of Chow Family Praying Mantis and those learnt by Tony, whilst at the TCM Hospital in China. Doctors in China regularly prescribe Qi Gong as therapy for high blood pressure, poor circulation, asthma, nervous diseases, impotence, arthritis and back, neck and joint problems. Qi Gong may be one of the finest heart and lung exercises for older people especially those who are not capable of strenuous exercise. Qi Gong includes meditation techniques is extremely effective for calming and stilling the mind, releasing stress and retarding the aging process.
